GENERAL CHALLENGES BEFORE RECYCLING

  1. Dried up Lawns during dry weather and water shortage periods
  2. Health, Sanitation & contamination risks from failed soak pits and during floods.
  3. Bad oduors due to sewer spills or overflows & during frequent exhauster truck visits.
  4. Environmental or property degradation.

BENEFITS AFTER RECYCLING

  1. Improved health e.g. reduced risk of diseases when working or playing in an area that has been irrigated with safe treated waste water. Also improved health as vegetables are irrigated with treated water as opposed to raw waste water.
  2. Water recycling can re duce and pre vent pollution.
  3. Reclaimed waste water can provide for recreational activities e.g. parks, gardens, ponds or water fountains.
  4. Increased property or environmental value in the area where recycling is done.
  5. Enhanced water quality in the receiving waters and improved habitat in the downstream watersheds through discharge of treated safe effluent into rivers and natural streams.
  6. Reduced freshwater diversion from sensitive ecosystems e.g. fish. Water users can supplement their demands by using recycled water, which can free considerable amounts of water for the environment and increase flows to vital ecosystems.
  7. Recycled water may be used to create or enhance wetlands and riparian (stream) habitats. For streams that have been impaired or dried from water diversion, water flow can be augmented with recycled water to sustain and improve the aquatic and wild life habitat.
